The Ostrava steelworks has signed a contract for upgrade of a continuous caster worth EUR 7.2 million

Ostrava 18th of December 2018 - To increase its reliability, ArcelorMittal Ostrava will upgrade its continuous caster, which produces semi-finished products (slabs) for the hot-strip mill. The project worth a total spending of EUR 7.2 million will be carried out by Austrian company Primetals Technologies.

“The upgrade will improve the reliability of the asset and reduce downtimes. It will also have a positive effect on the quality: the produced steel will have better inner characteristics,” says Petr Gíza who is in charge of all the three ArcelorMittal Ostrava´s casters.

Equipment for the upgrade are now under engineering and manufacturing and the implementation in the Ostrava steelworks will start from the last quarter of 2019.

“This cooperation will improve the competitiveness of Arcelor Mittal Ostrava and also proves the leading position of Primetals Technologies in caster related technology services.” adds Ludwig Reiter, Vice President of Upstream Services.
