Health Awareness Week to focus on disease prevention and healthy life style

Ostrava, 7 September 2018 – Health Awareness Week at ArcelorMittal Ostrava has been a traditional event which is yet again to take place this year. Between 10 and 15 September, employees of ArcelorMittal and its subsidiaries will be able to participate in several programmes that will remind them of how important it is to take care of their health. The plant's employees will be offered preventive screening for melanoma or breast cancer, receive practical training in healthy movement, take up a massage, or do sport activities. Several thousand employees take part in the event each year.

"Health Week has been an immensely popular event at the steel plant. Thousands of employees are involved each year, which proves they've had a keen interest in leading a healthy lifestyle and staying fit,", said Jiří Michálek, Chief Health and Safety Officer at ArcelorMittal Ostrava.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava together with its subsidiaries have prepared numerous activities to engage in during the Health Week. The Ostrava steel plant continually maintains long-term interest in health and safety prevention, which is a way more effective than handling the consequences of neglect.

This year's programme offers employees an opportunity to have their birthmarks or breasts screened using ultrasound technology. Training and instruction in keeping a healthy posture while sitting or standing as well as learning to move our body in a healthy way will also be part of the programme. The event will also include massages or functionality tests of safety work equipment. As healthy eating forms an indispensable part of prevention, healthy food will be served in employees' canteens throughout the week. The Health Week will be topped by the traditional football tournament between teams set up from employees of the individual plants.

The Ostrava steelmaker combines employee protection with obeying strict health and safety rules not only at the workplace. Speed of traffic will be measured at company premises and bikers will be checked for using safety equipment during the week. The plant's fire brigade will prepare an open day for employees of ArcelorMittal Ostrava and their children on Saturday which will include displays of fire-fighting equipment as well as live demonstrations of its use.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava a.s. is part of the world’s largest steel and mining group ArcelorMittal. Annually it produces over 2 million tonnes of steel, which is mainly used in construction and machinery. It is the biggest manufacturer of road safety barriers and pipes in the Czech Republic.
