Employees in the Ostrava steelworks will gain on average CZK 2000 a month in the new year

Ostrava 7 January 2019 - For 2019, the management and trade unions have agreed on a permanent increase in salary in the tariff component representing an average increase of CZK 2,090 with surcharges per employee. Further, a one-off lump sum payment of the average amount of 9 100 CZK per employee in January. Newly, employees will be entitled to another 1 per cent of the annual average earnings in the case of exceeded economic results.

"We are always striving for adequate appraisal of our people, we want our salaries to be competitive and attract the best performers to the company. Besides, we have a very sophisticated system of social incentives and benefits as well as a mechanism for sharing the company's profit with the employees," said Veronika Muroňová, HR Director of ArcelorMittal Ostrava.

The employees will also be able to benefit from the existing benefits.

„A comprehensive system of social incentives and other benefits remains valid also for 2019, including an extra week of holidays, pension and life insurance contributions of up to CZK 1,800 per month, special rewards on birthdays and for birth or adoption of a child as well as contributions for health vacations for children and contributions upon retirement, said Muroňová.

The company benefits also include spa treatment stays and health programmes as well as financial assistance in difficult life situations or interest-free loans for housing. The company also contributes to sports and cultural activities for both employees and their children.

The Ostrava steelworks and its subsidiaries have 6500 employees. The average monthly earnings in 2018 (excluding management) amounted to 39,180 crowns.

Annually it produces over 2 million tonnes of steel, which is mainly used in construction and machinery. It is the biggest manufacturer of road safety barriers and pipes in the Czech Republic.
