The new technology in ArcelorMittal Ostrava´s Frydek-Místek rolling mill will allow the production of new products and increase competitiveness

Ostrava, October 25, 2017 - The final test of a new technology for laser scribing treatment of grain-oriented (GO) electrical sheets was held today at ArcelorMittal Ostrava's rolling mill in Frýdek-Místek. The equipment worth more than EUR 2.5 million will allow the production of new high added value products and will increase the competitiveness of the company.

"The facility will enable us to produce new high added value products. This will increase our competitiveness on the silicon sheet market for electrotechnics. We will now be able to offer our customers a product with lower core losses that will improve the quality and reduce the consumption of transformers," said Ivo Chmelík, director of the ArcelorMittal Ostrava´s plant in Frýdek-Místek.

Thanks to laser technology, the rolling mill is now producing new grades of GO sheets and strips, which are used for the manufacture of transformers. The installation of the new technology into the existing production line was unique as it was done during full operation of the line.

"Thanks to the excellent technical solution and the cooperation with renowned companies the project has been successfully completed. The time taken from the signature of the contract to final testing was less than nine months," Chmelík added.
